Dr Sin Gwen Li is a psychiatrist at Gleneagles Medical Centre in Singapore; her special interests are in old-age (geriatric) psychiatry, cognitive disorders, and sleep medicine.
Dr Sin completed her basic medical training and graduated with bachelor degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS). She obtained her master’s degree in psychiatry from NUS and completed her specialty training in Singapore.
In 2013, she received the Health Manpower Development Plan award and completed a year-long clinical fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Toronto and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Canada. She completed the SMU-SingHealth Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management in 2019. She is a Fellow in the Academy of Medicine, Singapore where she is a member of the College of Psychiatrists, Chapter of Sleep Medicine Physicians and the Section of Neuropsychiatry.
Dr Sin was a senior consultant at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where she honed her clinical skills in general and consultation-liaison psychiatry.
In SGH, Dr Sin worked closely with the Palliative Medicine team to provide patients with psycho-emotional support during their illness journeys. She understands the challenges faced by patients and their loved ones experiencing newly diagnosed terminal illnesses as well as those nearing the end of life.
Dr Sin was also actively involved in numerous clinical quality improvement projects in SGH. As the department lead, she oversaw the development and implementation of projects to improve care delivery and outcomes for patients. She has supervised various clinicians within and outside her department in their improvement projects.
Dr Sin was also a part of the SGH Sleep Centre, the largest in Singapore with the most comprehensive suite of services. She provided outpatient consultations and managed complex sleep disorders including insomnia.
In 2012, she started the Psychogeriatric Memory Clinic which catered to elderly persons with memory problems and related psychiatric conditions. In 2019, she initiated the Community Mental Health Empowerment Team (CoMET) to work with community partners on dementia care and was appointed Programme Director. Dr Sin continues to serve in CoMET as a Visiting Consultant to SGH.
Besides her clinical work, Dr Sin is a passionate medical educator. She was a clinical senior lecturer at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and an adjunct assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. She has developed teaching materials and conducted numerous lectures and workshops on mental health and cognitive disorders for medical staff in psychiatry, geriatric, palliative and family medicine as well as community workers.
Dr Sin is known for being a thorough, competent, and compassionate doctor who genuinely cares for her patients. She is a recipient of several awards including the Singapore Health Quality Service Award and the Service with a Heart Award.
She is fluent in English and Malay, and conversant in Mandarin, Hokkien and Cantonese.
